Tuesday April 26

Same - sent letter to Ed Yerington, Carson and received one from him today. Bowels still bad. Some of the University Cadets have sent in their names for enlistment as cavalry men -- Among them Emmet Boyle of Gold Hill -- The Va Chronicle says:

Same -- Busy trimming hop vines, etc -- 3 or 4 more sea prizes reported taken today -- and one, the "Saranac" an American Merchantman captured by the Spanish off Manila, the first prize they have taken -- We have taken over a dozen from them -- some very rich ones including a small war vessel or two -- Letter from "Uncle George" R Paynter, who was
