Sec Marine Deptt Bd Trade London.
Sir, 2nd June 1858.
With reference to my report of the 12th
March last - acquainting you that a quantity of Droit
Tallow picked up on the sea shore near Hornsea - by
John Smith
Leonard Barker and
Mathew Willisen
had been conveyed to Beverley
and sold to Mr Fredk John Yates. --
That Tallow was traced by the within
named Officers, - Mr Edward Catchpole my Inspector of the
River -- and Mr C A Davis, one of my Tide Surveyors.
Their great vigilence in this matter enabled me in the
first instance to bring the subject under your notice - and
would no doubt have enabled me to have obtained a conviction
had I been allowed to institute proceedings. - I therefore
beg to recommend them to your favorable consideration -
when the subject of reward to Officers for tracing the
same may come under your notice. In my Letter
of to day's date - I have reported that the parties first named
have now paid me the proceeds for which they sold the
Tallow ---- viz ---- £. 13 " 6 . 0
