W. air - a medium sized shower during night. Shower at 11:45 A.M. with some hail
Palm Sunday spent in ((?)) - a rainy day - showers. Camp picehd
in a little falowed patch of land was very muddy. The soil is a very
dark brown slightly tinged with red, and very fine - the stickiest soil
I have ever seen. It takes a chisel ready to get it off ones shoes
where it sticks in pounds. To go from one tent to another we put on
rubber boots and carry slippers in our hands changing out foot gear
at the tent entrances. There are some dozen Beduin tents pitched
here some Arab and some Turkoman or Nomadic turks. They seem
to be superior to the Arabs on cleanlyness and physic and intelligence
and are better dressed - This opinion is tentative - I must see more of
them - They speak Turkish. This is just about the dividing line
between the Turkish and Arabic languages. They speak Arabic in
Aleppo and Turkish in Antioch
