In the afternoon I drew one of
the plans of the bridge.

July 16th

In the forenoon I drew another
plan of the bridge for Mr White.
While I was drawing it Mr
White & the [Govolium?] came in
to the office. The weather for
the most part this summer has
been cool, but yesterday
& to day it is getting hot.

In the afternoon Mr Henry went
to Louisville to see Mr White & I went
to Portland to get some timber. I
was accompanied by Mr Taylor; we

crossed over to New Albany (I having
some business at the foundary [foundry] there).

After doing this was introduced
to Mr Benton who is building
a large foundry, for now, one
for brass, and various shops
for blacksmyths [blacksmiths], Turners &c &c
on a large scale. I was very
much interested with the
appearance of his 40 men all
actually engaged at their various
mechanical persuits. After
this we walked up on the
Indiana side of the river &
passed by a place where there is
