Medicinal Artesian Spring

THE many enquiries that have been made concerning this Artesian Spring, and the great desire manifested by those who have heard something of it to hear more, has led to the publication of this pamphlet.

The water is perfectly free to the public, and no remuneration is exacted from those who may choose to visit the Fountain from motives of interest, or from invalids who may come here to partake of its waters for the restoration of health.

The well is sunk upon the highest eminence within the corporation of the village. It was first projected

4 MEDICIANAL ARTESIAN SPRING,

by J. T. Hemphill, President of the First National Bank of Sparta, and was designed to secure a running fountain in the centre of Montgomery Park, and also for the purpose of supplying the inhabitants with pure water by carrying it in pipes, through the principal streets of town. This object has been admirably effected - flowing water having been struck at a depth of 315 feet, in the month of October 1867. and since that time had constantly poured out a living stream of water, its volume exceeding 100 gallons per minute.

Residents of this village who have been afflicted with chronic diseases, having daily drank of this water, realized a permanent cure, and could attribute it to no other remedy.

These remarkable cures combined with other causes, led our physicians and also several scientific chemists to the investigation of its medicinal properties, and from these investigations and analyses one of which is hereto appended, it was ascertained that the water of this Artesian Spring contained a variety of valuable elements know to the MATERIA MEDICA.

The Artesian Spring is situated in the Village of Sparta, Monroe County, Wisconsin, and on the line of the Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, 175 miles West of Milwaukee, 200 miles Northwest of Chicago, and 25 miles East of La Crosse, which city lies upon the Eastern bank of the Mississippi river.

6 MEDICINAL ARTESIAN SPRING,

Anaemia, Chlorosis, Depravity of the Blood.

The medicinal properties of this water seems especially adapted to the cure of a large class of diseases which come under the general head of Anaemia. It is where, from repeated hemorrhages, wasting discharges or any other cause, the blood has become impoverished by a diminution of the red globules. This condition is characterized by certain symptoms, which, when duly recognized, enables the physician to supply, by proper remedies, the deficiency which exists in the vital fluid. The circulation is sluggish; the animal temperature is lowered; extremities are cold; the pulse is weak and the action of the heart is easily disturbed upon the least mental excitement, becoming at such times rapid and irregular. The is loss of mental energy and muscular strength. There is general depression and lassitude, palpitation of the heart is of frequent occurrence, and great fear often exists that there is organic disease of this organ.

There is frequently extreme tenderness of the abdominal walls upon pressure, and neuralgia in various forms exists in a certain proportion of cases.

There is pallor of the surface, especially of the face and lips. All these symptoms are aggravated in proportion to the existing impoverishment of the blood.
