of twenty-five negroes, men women and children, be-
ing the negroes afd - but the said note was in truth
and in fact given to secure to sd Turnipseed usuri-
ous interest upon the sum which he claims to be
due as afd, from orator to himself - whereas inter-
est on the sum there really due from the so 23rd day
of March 1843 to the 1st of March 1844 would have
been only $360.90, instead of the said sum of
$888.99

That before the maturity of sd note
Orator paid to the sd Turnipseed in [speeie] the sum
of seven hundred and twenty six dollars; that sd
payment was made to orator's best remembrance
in the month of January or February before the
sd note became due

X. Orator further sheweth that a short time
after sd bills of sale were given as afd to wit
on the twenty second day of May in the year one
thousand eight hundred and forty three he gave
another bill of sale to the sd Turnipseed on a negro
man named York [?] at the sum of four hundred
and fifty dollars set down in sd bill of sale as
the price of sd slave - that sd bill of sale was given
upon the same terms and conditions as the other
bills of sale and upon like assurances given by the
so Turnipseed to Orator - That before sd bill of sale was giv-
en sd Turnipseed had bought two notes on Orator one
for the sum of twenty dollars dated by mistake/ as
orator verily believes) on the twenty eighth day of
May one thousand eight hundred and forty three
instead of the twenty eighth day fo May one thou
sand eight hundred and forty two, the true date, as
