Status: Needs Review

Payneville, Ala. Nov. 30, 1860
To His Excellency, Andrew B. Moore,
Governor of Alabama
Dear Sir: Our venerable and highly esteemed Probate
Judge, for Lowndes County, Hon. E. [?] Cook,
departed this life at 1 o'clock this morning and the
office which he has so long filled with much
ability, has thus become vacant. I therefore drop
you a line to inform you that I am an applicant
to fill the unexpired term for which he was
elected. And should I receive the appointment,
promise to discharge the duties of the office [underlined: faithfully,]
and to the best of my ability. I need the office,
and believe that my appointment will be satisfactory
to the people of the County, and all others who
may be interested in the business of the Court.
As to my capacity etc, I beg leave to refer you
to Gen. S. P. Nessmith, of this place, John A. Elmore,
Thomas J. Judge, and Thomas H. Watts, of Montgomery.
Hoping that this application will meet with
your favorable consideration.
I remain
Yours Respectfully
William [Rarry ?]
