Mobile March 31, 1860. To His Excellency Gov. A. B. Moore Dear Sir - We are informed that John A. Hitchcock Esq. at present Judge of Probate, for this County intends shortly to resign that position. We learn also that Danl. Chandler Esq of this Bar will put the appointment at your hands. We beg to add our cordial recommendation in his favor to that of other gentlemen who may bespeak your favorable regard of his claims. No one would portend to doubt Mr Chandler's competing for the office. His long and large experience at the Bar, has well fitted him to administer the law from the Bench of that Court, for believe our Community would be gratified at seeing him in that office; & that no other appointment would be more satisfactory to the profession & the public. Our professional connection with the business of this County, justifies us , we think, in the expression of these sentiments. If it be proper to speak of personal wishes, we may say our wishes and judgment would be satisfied with such exercise of the appointing power. We understand that the situation of his personal affairs renders the office desirable to Mr Chandler, at
