Dear Sir

I write
you on behalf of the Ladies of this
place & vicinity to learn if you
can do anything for them in the
way of sewing or rather furnish-
ing cloth for Government Clothing

These soldiers wives here who
are almost solely dependent on
their own [exertions?] for a living
and could you furnish work
for them you would be doing
them a great favor

I have been making every eff-
ort to get work for them, but
have failed so far, And now
apply to you as the last resort
If you can furnish the cloth
and will have Wm. J. G. White
