Montgomery Ala Decr 5/59
Thos. O. Glascock Esq
Dear Sir
In answer to
your inquiries relative to Swearengen,
who was sent to the State-prisin some
years Since for Stealing a Negro, I
can only Say that a Mr Watkins who
purchased the negro, and had
commenced prosecution against Swearengen Said
to me if he could get his money back
he would not appear against him in
court. This conversation I related to Mr.
May acting as the attorney or friend of
Mr.Swearengen who as I
understand obtained the Money from the
Father of Swearengen, which Money
was paid over to Watkins, who
after receiving the Money and
contrary to his positive assertions, appeared
in Court, and by his testimony,
Swearengenwas convicted, and
Sentenced.
Respty yours &c
E. L. Ellsworth
