Alf Richardson

Description

Born in 1832 into slavery in Clarke County. Later, Richardson went on to gain political power, drawing white supremacist opposition against him in Athens, Georgia. In 1872 Richardson dies, although the cause of his death remains to uncertain--whether by lynching at the hands of the Klan or natural causes.
