Springfield April 12, 1859. Sunday evening

My Dearest Friend I resived[received] your kind and affectionate letter last Tuesday afternoon was glad to hear from you. I did not get your first letter the letter man takeing it to the shop and Henry put it into his pocket and it droped it in the street I felt bad about it and he felt sorry that looss[lose] it. Mrs. Burns, resived[received] your letter last Saturday week and I had the pleasure of reading it Sunday. I was down to Mrs Burns last Thursday, she sayes that she is getting along veary well, she has a giral[girl] liveing with her she sayes the not goining[going] to keep any longer then this week. Mrs. Williams got her for Mrs. B. Mrs. Williams has moved in the house with [Anders Reobens?] in Union Street. Dorsia is veary well her eye is a much better Mrs. Freeman just about the same she

Dear Rebecca

Your letter dated Oct 23rd was duly received, and this evening after so long a time I have sat down to answer it. I received a letter from Nancy last evening, she said you thought very strange at my not writing to you, and when I thought of the length of time that has elapsed since I received your friendly letter, I felt very much ashamed of my neglect to you, and I presume you think I am not a very true friend, but be assured Dear Rebecca that I have not all this time forgotten

Dear sister I promise to write to you I thought I am very glad to hear that you like your new home I suppose you would me to tell you all the new the Bethel Church was dedicated last Sunday and a week before last was a [Entiament?] at Sanford street Church the singing school has commence Mr Burnes Mother and father lives with her and Rebeca has come back to [Chool?] and I am very sorry to say that we have lost Chollate Williams she died at Doctor Grays New Haven Doctor says she had the lipo fever, theay say folk says that Mary Cary is to be married next month [Tousuway?] Jay is married to Mr Richard nease Louisa Salon has gone

that they thought the bullet was coming out of neck but Eddie said that it was not that it was near his heart he has been to a doctor in New York but he said that it would never come out. I am coming down to see you before long and Grandma and Grandpa and I guess you will not think that [?] am a little girl I am going on 16 years old. Father has signed the papers for me to stay until I am 18 years old Tell Aunt Emeline that I would like to see Georgie and Frank very much I will send some pieces of my new dressed. Last week Wednesday night Miss Talbot the Laundress here and I went to a strawberry festival and we had strawberries ice cream and cake there was music all the time we were there. We did not go Election day because it rained and we were all disappointed but Mrs Robinson sent up to the stor and got us four pounds of candy and has ice cream
