Somewhere in France Dec 6/17.
Miss Nettie McNaughton,
Dear friend, -
Received your very welcome letter and should have written sooner. Am away behind with my correspondence, but do not forget my friends in Canada.
Well I suppose everybody is talking about conscription and the election. We supported the union government almost to a man out here.
Write soon.
Wishing you all a "Merry Xmas.
Dave.
[written upwards, along the left-hand side] Oliver is well.

Miss Nettie McNaughton
Dear friend, -
Received your card and will try and write few lines in answer. I am not in the battalion with Oliver now, but no doubt he has mentioned in some of his letters that I am not. I am in the Trench Mortar Battery for the present, but can be taken back to the battalion any time. I like the work better than in the battalion.
I haven't seen Oliver since the beginning of Feb., but still am liable to run across him any time, as we are likely to be within reach occasionally

II. We are getting beautiful weather over here now.
Had a good time on pass to Scotland and London.
I think I will go to Paris my next pass, which may be about July.
Well, will close for this time. By the way, be sure and let me know when you change your name, so that I'll know how to address your letters
Hoping you are real well as this leave me the same.
Yours sincerely Dave
(P.S. Remember me to the rest of the folks at your home.)
