3/ The Lords' Day alliance have no complaint to air. The poor dears. This Coy did not have their Xmas dinner until the 26th, but it was a good one. The items on the switchlist were -- turkey , mashed potatoes, sauce, plum pudding and apple pie, chocolate, maple sugar, nuts and oranges, cigarettes, cigars, coffee, and beer. There was more than enough for all and then some. New Years is more of a holiday than Christmas, that is insofar as the civilian population is concerned. The main idea is to diss and be dissed by anybody or anything that has two lips, even if one is a hairlip. I suppose it is good practice but it doesn't last long enough. There is an estaminet (saloon) next door, and the other day the son came home on leave. Talk about a celebration. [YMCA logo] France Apr 18th/18 My Dear Cousin: Your epistle dated Jan 27th reached me some time ago and sure was glad to hear from you again, even though I didnt answer your precious letter. By this I see you haven't lost your good nature even though you are a school marm. Good Lord but the parents of those scholars (should I say pupils?) must have drilled patience into them and then plugged the opening. Of course I'm judging then by myself as you doubtless are aware of the vast amount of patience I am blessed with. Just like Uncle Scott when the binder breaks on the fourth to last lap the clouds getting badly bent and darkness in 10 minutes. Every time Nettie writes she mentions the activity of the various sob sisters'
