Description

Charles Gardner Lathrop (1849-1914), the younger brother of Jane Lathrop Stanford by 21 years. He came to California in 1877 and soon began working with his brother Ariel Lathrop as Business Manager for Leland Stanford. By 1892 he was Attorney for Stanford University and then became Treasurer and Business Manager in 1893. He was appointed as a Trustee of Stanford University in Nov. 1893 by his sister five months after the death of Leland Stanford. He and his family lived in an estate called "Alta Vista" on the Stanford University campus adjacent to the present-day golf course.
