Harrisburg, Harris, Texas

Established before 1825 on the survey of New York entrepreneur John Richardson Harris, along the right bank of Buffalo Bayou. It was burned to the ground by the Mexican Army of Santa Anna, just prior to the Republic of Texas winning their independence. It was soon rebuilt, and became the first Capital of the Republic. But as the new City of Houston grew, Harrisburg dwindled, and was annexed by Houston in 1926.
