Dunbar Tigers Defeat Jasper
The Dunbar Tigers took their
third straight district win here
Saturday night over Jasper, 29-
13 before a large homecoming
crowd.
Dunbar's first score came in
the first quarter when Aris Smith
dashed 5 yards. Eddie Hender-
son booted the PAT to make
the score 7-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, Jasper
fumbled on their own 1 yard line.
Freddie Jones recovere for Dun-
bar.
It took John L. Williams only
1 play to gain the one yard and
make the score 13-0. Ed Hen-
derson kicked the point to run
the score to 14-0.
The Tigers tallied again in the
second quarter on a pass play
from their star quarterback,
Isiah Ligones to Archie Howard.
Ed Henderson added the PAT
to make the scoreboard read
Dunbar 21, Jasper 0.
In the third quarter Dunbar
scored chiefly through the efforts
of Jones. He carried the ball
5 successive times for 14, 9, 4,
7, and 1 yards to paydirt.
Ace quarterback Ligones hit
Carl Taylor for a 2 point con-
version to give the Tigers a com-
fortable 29-0 lead.
Jasper came back in the fourth
quarter on a one yard plunge
by Tommie Williams. The PAT
failed and the Tigers led 29-6.
With 6 seconds left to play,
Ligones had a pass intercepted
on his 35 yard line, by Robert
Smith, who ran 65 yards for the
final Jasper TD. The PAT was
kicked by Smith and the final
score was 29-13.
Dunbar rolled up 216 yards on
the ground, while limiting Jasper
to 201.
The Tigers gathered 12 first
downs to 7 for the Jasper team.
Dunbar completed 5 of 9 passes
for 30 yards while Jasper could
manage to connect on [?]
for 6 yards.
Dunbar was penalized for a
total of 93 yards and Jasper was
charged with 10 yards in penal-
