427945 : Flight Sergeant John Matthew BIGGAR.
PARENTS : Mr. & Mrs. J. M. Biggar of Makirikiri, Wanganui

John Biggar was born at Wanganui on the 11th March,
1922, and received his education at Upokongaro School, where he
gained the Proficiency Certificate. He was interested in
football and cricket. After leaving school he was employed by
Mr. J. Farley, at Makirikiri in farming pursuits, and was so
employed when applying for aircrew on the 16th December, 1940.

Flight Sergeant Biggar was enlisted at Ohakea on the
11th July, 1942, and employed there on aerodrome defence duties
until remustering to aircrew and posting to Initial Training
Wing, Rotorua, on the 29th October. He embarked for Canada
on the 10th January, 1943, under the Empire Air Training Scheme.

F/Sgt. Biggar arrived in Canada on the 29th January
and on the 6th February was posted to No. 2 Wireless School,
Calgary, Alberta. On the 18th September he was remustered to
air gunner and posted on the 29th October to No. 3 Bombing and
Gunnery School, Macdonald, Manitoba, where - on the 10th December,
1943 - he was awarded his air gunners badge and promoted to
Sergeant.
