F/Lt. Black arrived at No. 3 Personnel Reception
Centre, Bournemouth, on the 9th February, 1942, and on the 10th
March was posted to No. 52 Operational Training Unit, Aston Down,
Gloucestershire, where he completed his training on Spitfire fighter
aircraft. On the 12th May, 1942, he was posted to No. 485 (NZ)
Squadron, Kenley, Surrey. From this station he took part in 21
operational flights, comprising 5 shipping strikes; low level
attacks on Flushing, Le Treport, the railway at Foret d' Eu and
Hazebrouck. On one occasion he helped to provide top cover for a
commando raid on Boulogne. He took part in 6 defensice patrols
and in 2 enemy aircraft interception and in 2 air/sea rescues.
