exercises on Anson, Blenheim, and Magister aircraft. On the
17th June, 1942, he was posted to No. 107 Squadron, West Baynham,
Norfolk. With this squadron, as wireless operator air gunner
and later observer on Boston aircraft he flew on five operational
flights, the targets including Abbeville and Cherbourg, in
France,Wellsbroeck, Belgium, and one air/sea rescue search.

On this 10th November, 1942, Sgt. Fenton was Wireless
Operator Air Gunner of a Boston aircraft which took off on air
operations to attack the enemy occupied town of Le Havre. The
aircraft crashed into the sea 4 miles off Le Havre, while evading
enemy fire. All the members of the crew, including Sgt. Fenton,
were classified missing. This was his 5th operational flight.
Subsequently his death was officially presumed. There was one
other New Zealander in the crew, P/O J. A. Logan of Hastings,
whose body was recovered from the sea.
