Ramsbury, Wiltshire. At this unit he trained on Oxford Aircraft
until posting in July to No. 1514 Beam Approach Training Flight,
Coningsby, Lincolnshire for a week's course on the conclusion of
which he returned to No. 15 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit, Ramsbury.
On the 27th July, 1943 he proceeded to No. 18 (Pilots) Advanced
Flying Unit, Snitterfield, Warwickshire, where he continued his
training on Oxford Aircraft and on the 10th August, 1943 he was
posted to No. 11 Operational Training Unit first at Westcott and
later at Oakley, both in Buckinghamshire. At this unit he trained
on Wellington Bomber Aircraft until the end of December, when he
proceeded to No. 1653 Conversion Unit Chedburgh, Suffolk where he converted to
Stirling Bomber Aircraft. Early in February 1944 he was posted for
a short course at No. 3 Lancaster Finishing School, Feltwell,
Norfolk and on the completion of this course he was posted to No.
625 Squadron Kelstern, Lincolnshire. With this squadron as the
Pilot of a Lancaster Bomber he participated in six operational
flights including the target of Sttugart (2), Frankfurt (2),
Berlin and Essen all in Germany.
Pilot Officer Green was the Pilot of a Lancaster Bomber
Aircraft which took off on the night of 10/11th April, 1944 to
attack the target of Aulnoye, France and failed to return to its
base. All the member sof the crew including Pilot Officer Green
were classified as missing. Information was subsequently received
from the International Red Cross Committee stating that the bodies
of Sergeant Bottomley R.C.A.F. who was a member of Pilot Officer
Green's crew and five airmen whose identites had not been identified
had been recovered by the International Red Cross Committee.
Later, information from the same source stated that Sergeant
Finley of the same crew had been captured and made a prisoner
of war but there was no news of Pilot Officer Green. Additional
information from the International Red Cross Committee was received
to the effect that three identified members of the same crew in
addition to others unidentified had been buried in the St. Pierre
Cemetery, Amiens, France. In consequence he was reclassified as
