Edward Morley was born in Hastings, Hawkes Bay on April 24th 1916 and received his secondary education at the Napier Boys' High School. At High School he was a member of the 1st XV in football and 1st XI in cricket. He was also a New Zealand Amateur Middleweight Wrestling Champion. At the time of making an application for War Service in the Royal New Zealand Air Force on March 10th 1941 he was employed as a Porter in the New Zealand Railways at Masterton.

Pilot Officer Morley was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin on December 21st 1941 and was posted to New Plymouth on February 7th, 1942 for his elementary flying training. Early in April he proceeded to No. 2 Service Flying Training School, Blenheim where he was awarded the Flying Badge on June 15th 1942. He was promoted to Pilot Officer on September 5th. On October 10th he went on a course to the Central Flying School, Tauranga, being posted to Harewood on December 8th on flying instruction duties.

Pilot Officer Morley (Instructor) and Leading Aircraftman H.O. Hart lost their lives in an aircraft accident at West Eyreton, Canterbury, on January 7th 1943 while engaged on an instructional flight. Pilot Officer Morley was buried in the Cemetery, Hastings.
