Description

John Doran Hunt (1814-1859) was Nancy Hunt's brother and one of JWG's closest friends. He died suddenly, collapsing in the arms of one of his slaves, whom JWG referred to as "his man." Possibly, the highest ranking slave and one who worked closely with his master was called "his man" or "my man."

John first married Martha Daniel (1832-1852). After her death, John married her sister Susan E. Daniel (1834-1858).
Children with Martha:
John Pride Hunt (1851-1908); he married Mary Tredway (1863-1965)
Martha "Mattie" Daniel Hunt (1852-1913); she married George Edward Coleman (1844-1935), her first cousin

Children with Susan:
Mary Alice Hunt (1854-1936), never married
James Doran Hunt (1865-1893)
Flora Hunt (1858); she died around 6 months old.
Susan died a few months after Flora

Buried at the Hunt Cemetery from this group are John Doran Hunt, both his wives, Flora Hunt, interestingly, also buried there is Julie Catherine Daniel, a younger sister of Martha and Susan who died at age 18. The Daniel sisters were daughters of William Pride Daniel.
