1864 June 19 Finished plowing over our Crop of every discription not quite done weeding corn. Began yesterday to Lay by our Corn great excitment in neighborhood Just now my wife gone to Danl R Hunts, I sent Smith to Mr. Lewis s for Doct Thompson for Mr Hunt. I went to Mr A. Haleys one day this week & on e [W?]] Bridge. Bybee started this morning to Capt Campbell CH, in the army I am sick at this time— Sent Smith to Mr Wallers with letter to Capt Williams —

21 st June Mr Jno H. Owens cow run in my field on Creek one month his mule Run in the same about 2 weeks which he has to work for me for their staying Grazing

22 weeding down our Tobacco here clear pretty day.

23rd Weeding our Tobacco & laying by corn. Sent Smith to Tates to have shoes nailed on Robin not been shod since last Aug. & have plow Pinted[painted?]

1864 June 25th Cutting wheat at Plantation sent claiborne to stack & little Henry to tie up yesterday prized tobacco & finished left Morefields 710 part there Laying Corn there & weeding Tobacco by overseers houses Laying by Corn & choping here [Harried?] late Corn & choped it over yesterday – finished weeding Tobacco here Clear dry & Hot weather

26th. Clear & Hot. Sunday Cut Rye here yesterday

27 I went to CH got my Papers for 2 master saw J Faris Lovelace etc etc Plowing & working corn & Garden to day

28 & 29th. Cutting wheat at Plantation Claiborne & Henry there 3 days. something like rain this morning. Sallie a week at plantation has a [Fistaloe?][fistula?] did not quite get done this 29th June at Aspen Grove cutting little ps wheat here 21 shocks yesterday

30. Finished cutting wheat at Plantation cut little at home. Plowing & weeding corn or rather hilling

July 1st Plowing & choping corn started Henry to CH with Gov Toba[cco] & to get salt for myself Est children & Jno Hagood & Nanny Blanks

Tobacco sent by JWG very good 10 lbs 61 lug 10 lbs to Gov 97 158 lbs for [Est] Jno D Hunt good 126 short 115 lbs lugs these 138 lbs 253 Jacob P Graves 10 lbs tobacco /379 lbs mixed sent 156 lbs in all /56 lbs sent 3 bags for est & my self for suet 3 for Jacob Fanny & Kate & 2 for old Hagood & R [Block] July 3rd Henry got back 1/2 after 12 O clock in the night 4th cutting wheat 2 hands from plantation & finished cutting some oats Pulling up flax to day Sent 2 turns corn to Keens Mill for meal Plowing & laying bg corn Sowed peas 6 & 7th July. Plowed Irish potatoes 7 & 8. Cutting Oats at Plantation fine shower rain & they planted tobacco there & finished --- not much rain here cutting oats here. Sent Smith for Doct Thompson for Lila 9th cutting oats here & at Plantation 11th cutting oats here & at Plantation My waggon [stretcher] & 4 [s?????????] & [stretche] my [b????] too [mules] & Jacob to drive Hunts est J kellys

11th July 1864 Cutting Oats here Dry & Hot weather at this time nearly finished cutting first sewing Oats Sent Bet this day to Plow at old Place

12th Halled up oats first cut & all wheat here put up 1 stack & put wheat in House The 9th July let Plantation negroes have 1 ps, midling meat see How long it will last

14th Let Henry have 1 midling to see how long it will last him & his gang. —

15 Plowing & working corn & our Tobacco Sewed Black Peas on new ground & white ones in fresh ground on road Hilled up Cotton Potatoes & Tobacco Halled up our wheat & pt of oats Very Dry weather no rain since this 1st June to wet the ground much

16 Very Dry & Hot Corn suffering very much. Plowing & Hilling up our Tobacco

1864 July 21st Finished Laying by Corn to day Hilling up Tobacco Too Halling & stacking Oats Fine Rain here yesterday notanyat Plantation Scarcely

22 Stacking Oats

23 Finished stacking Oats at Aspen Grove to day put 17th stacks there in all, government to have there[their] part Here we stacked 7 stacks besides the Government divided here, not done cutting got to cut on Creek Halling up wheat at Plantation not done there the wheat.

26th I have rode 2½ days hunting beeves for Government went to WmB L V. yesterday Saml. Stones Kates FannieS Wm John etc for Beeves, cutting & hewing Logs for Hen House Halling them up this morning no rain yet Dry & cool weather & Looks very badly & all vegetables dryed up Settled with old man Hagood & Mrs Blanks about salt. Wrote for Wm [unclear] Vaughan ½ day he gave me $3 –
