1864 July 27th. Yesterday we worked on Hen House & covered & fix Barn Top

28th Raised Hen House & covered Tobacco House,

29th Thrashed wheat at Plantation & finished thrashing got Rye to finish & will bring up machine to Mr Hunts plantation John Richard Whitehead starts to the army this morning,

30th Finished at Plantation getting out & machining at Mr Hunts place I went to Mr Patricks etc to get Beeves & Muttons for army

31 Fine Rain this evening Sunday Cloud from N. W. little hail Come in fine time for all want it & so glad to see it. every thing parching up very much Very warm weather. Lord make us all thankful forrainthe

Augt 1st Fair day & thrashed wheat here Bet is gone to Plantation to finish lay by corn

2nd Augt. Getting stubs for Hen House shrubs on Branch for corn -

1864 August 3rd Finished getting & halling up boards for Hen House. Shrubing on branch for corn & to day cutting oats on Creek

8th Sewed Turnips shrubing on branch for corn & yesterday it rained & day before yesterday 6th it Rained finely

12 I have been to Lynchg & got some clothes for Mrs Hunts children hard dry times over that way. We have been shrubing for corn & toped over our tobacco & wormed to day & sewed Turnip seed in new ground

13. 14. 15 16 17 We have been getting up apples gringing [grinding] them shrubing going to meeting some etc etc

18 & 19 Fine Rains & warm weather most too late for corn crops tho it will make many nubbins where there would not have been nothing I went to Wallers Mr Faris to see about my molasses mill Mr Shelton & Mrs Markhams to get Pride clothes & to Farthings rained last night, wormed & top over over our Tobacco & working young corn our road Planted 10 Augt 1864

1864 Augt 20 Fine rain last night

21st Very warm & cloudy Sallie gone to Mrs [illegible]

22 Weeding corn sent to mill & shrubing grinding apples cloudy damp wet here

23 & 24 Working on road halled up oats Pressing out Cider etc Rained smartly 23rd showering finethis dayday

25 Went to Plantation begun to Still worming & succored over Tobacco

27 Rained last night Grinding apples Stilled 1½ days

28.29 30.31 Delivering wheat went to Mrs Lewis Bunel shrubing worming & succoring Tobacco, Cris has been here since Monday morning 29.- Set 3 Bbls to hold Cider at Mr Hunts place 2 from plantation & 1 from here Sent for my molasses mill yesterday Claiborne at work with Cris

30 Gave out negroes meat 1 middling here & at Plantation

31st Carried wheat to Depot 19 Bus & 4 lbs wool. brot 2½ home. Stilled 4½ day this week making 7½ days in all

1864 Sept 5.6. Rained last night in the day We made pond at Still & dug it out to make water run in Tub to still Several from old place came & helped all day I am starting to machine to get wool corded again, did not get it Halled up apples & finished Toba[cco] got 1 Turn corn from Plantation

7 Fixed still up to day & Pond & stilled one still full for myself mashing apples etc —

9 stilling & worming Tobacco pressing out cider fixed up still this week Stilling for old place doubled 2 times for Est JDH toll to come out

10th Began to pull fodder Gathered Peas this evening went to meeting

14th Sent Henry to Plantation to see about trashing Oats for Govment Pulling fodder Tying up etc Stacked up 1 stack, stilling most of this week, Large dark Bay Horse Mr Whitehead bot has come home priced $500, said to be 5 or 6 yrs old

1864 Sept 16th Stilling to day for Est making Low wines.

20th Sept 1864 Brot up from plantation 15 sheep, 1 Died from heat leaving 14 & 2 here making 17 1 Died, gave Fannie one leaving me 15 head. When she gets home lent Vaughan my Boar brot him back to day my sows had pigs I think 21 pigs. I have been Stilling to day went to court Monday come back Tuesday. Worming & succoring Tobacco to day Cris. came here to day 22nd to work in shop Pulling fodder & cut some tops this week put up 4 stacks here to this day. Cloudy & damp rained last night,

26th Pulling fodder & gathering Peas & stacking fodder to night Going to Plantation after wheat Carried Bed to Aspen Grove & all the tools done up in shop by Cris

Brot up 14 Bus Wheat from Plantation 10 for flour carried one bed down there4 Bus. for negroes here 2 Bags Feathers some wool & vinegar
