the 3rd Day of Decr. from Richmond

4th Sent little Henry & Smith to Fannies to help her abou her corn to day

5. Sunday. I went to Edgehill

6. Went to Plantation carrd corn & fodder from there due Gov. to Vaughans pRect

7 Got corn 3½ Bbls from Jacobs & Card to Vaughans, Come home & sent cart home Miss Benedict camedown from CH to Teach school the 6th Dec 1864 & is to board at Mrs. Colemans first

7th Miss Benedict Teaching this day

8 sent to Lains Shop cut 1 Tire put in 1 spoke & shod Robin & Phil before

Planted Irish Potatoes Halled Leaves covered them up 1 sheep drowned.

9 Snowed & halling Killed 10 hogs at home & salted up.

10 Cutting & malling wood in old field

13th Tuesday Very Cold yet Capt Wm M Hughes & Bro. Prindle all here last night I went to Strait Stone to day Snowed Hailed etc last friday & been cold ever since, -

14. 15 Culling wood Killed 6 Hogs at Aspen Grove to day – Cloudy & like for rain

1864 Dec 15 I went to Wm Vaughans to Divide corn & shucks

31 Dec 1864 I have been to Mrs. Fitzgeralds Kates & Jacobs, Court & many other places. It has been very changeable all this month Sometimes very cold winds high snowing or raining, & somteimtes very mild weather a day or Two at a time. Whiteheades negroes Divided yesterderday I was at Mount Airy. John R. Whitehead got Big Jacob Judith & child John — snowing this morning.

1865 Jany 5. Since 31st it has rained snowed & very cold, not done much this week Waggon & 2 hands help fill Ice House at old place yesterday. This morning & today rained all day. John R. Whitehead came home the 3rd Janry & Jerry talks of starting to the Army shortly.

9 Halled wood cut to day I went to old place to settle with Standly Doct Estes referee did not come.

10 Raining this morning Gave out Negroes Beef nearly 40 lbs for Henry & Son Henry Claiborne & Milly Ann a month —

1865 Jany 10th. Gave Judy 8 Beef for 12 days. Raining hard Raining all day & Thundered several times. Water coarses[courses] high.

13th Jere H Graves started to the Army this morning down to clover Henry with him. Big Henry gone after Tob. blade fodder to James Roarks for Susan Roarks for which halling she is to weave 6 yds Cloth Nice, Cloudy & like for rain to night Halled oats with waggon from A J Lewis's for Mr J R Whitehead, the 12th Inst

15. Sent upwards of 40 lbs Beef to Plantation for 1 month from this day. I went court.

17 Halling wood 2 Teams Henry & Milly Ann cutting

18 Jacob has been gone ever since last Thursday to hall flour to Danville. One of my mules gone with the team 1 week to day gone 6 days come back Thursday Went to mill to day 1 Barl. Corn

21st Raining & freesing last night & to day Engaged John J Lain to live with me at Aspen Grove this year & to move as soon as it [farrs?] off.

1865 Janry 21st Cleaning out Stables Raining & freesing this morning

22nd Real Sleet was breaking down with Ice powerfully this is 3 or 4 sleets. Did not send for Lain to day or rather Saturday Jos A. Whiteheads little & Doct Wooding came once to see it

24th negro got hurt after X & Doct Horton attended it Cold & windy my wife gone to Mrs McC Henry& Doct Wooding came once to see it went after J J Lain & stayed all night Moved him to Plantation to live

25..26 Very cold & Windy ground like a Lump of Ice Malling wood & rails in new ground next to road. I went to stables with Smith, went to Starkeys Tan Yard Yesterday, greatest freezing & breaking of Trees 21 & 22nd I ever saw in my life F W Fitzgerald here this week

27-28. Cutting & malling & halling wood Very cold weather the past week.

29 weather more moderate

30 John R. Whitehead started to the Army in the Valley. Very pretty day Halling leaves & malling.

Feb 2 Quite cool for 2 days not much thaw yet 3 of my sheep stole at Plantation night before last by some

1865 Janry 10 Give Judy 8 lbs Beef for Body. gutted in corner of fence this day I have been up to F W. & Jacob & Mrs Colemans etc

3. 4. 5 6 been to Plantation Halled wood finished malling & nearly done cleaning up new ground on road This day 6th we are malling rails in Piny old field on Hill by Turnip Patch

7 This morning snowing & Hailing all day. John R Whitehead came back yesterday.

8 Cleared off in night but clouded up in the day & cold & windy Halling wood Hail about 4 Inches dont melt none to day Pride gone as far as the bridge to see If he can meet Jerry who is expected home Came home about Night Jerry with him Very cold day

9. 10. 11th. Cold all the time Hail melted none

12th Very windy & cold to day Halled wood for ourselves & Susan Roarke yestday for weaving & for my wife 12 ydscloth

15 Henry Claiborne Little Henry & Milly Ann got Bacon 24 lb to last 1 month
