1857 Oct 14th Weaning Hesters second
Mule Colt Mary, last night,= Our old
Corn is about to give out 3 Turns brot at
this time which is all & lasted well, very fine
favorable fall, we have now at this near
700 sticks of Tobacco perhaps more standing
We have not cut over our new ground
but once, lot twice right Smart standing in Lo
=Daniel R Hunt Esqr esqr & Miss Emma Mebane was
to be maried last night in Richmond at 3rd
Presbyterian church – etc etc. Raining nearly
all this day Brot back the wheat card to mill
This morning – getting wood & stumps for
Barn at Crews & fresh ground worming
& succoring our Tobacco again to day
firing Tobacco nearly all day —

15th Still rains a little firing Tobacco
Finishing worming & succoring If it does
not rain,- Mr. E. G. Lewis gave me a young
Boar Pig, sent for him this morning —
cleared off in Evening Dug Irish Potatoes in part

16th clear in morning soon sun shone bright
& very soon it clouded up & about 8 & 8 Oclock
it rained hard & Turned cold, Kill sheep;
firing Tobacco Yet & wish to cut my Tobacco
this day - If it stops raining in time -
Did not get Done tho very cool no frost turned
a little warmer after dark & we stoped —

17th Finished cutting & Pilling Tobacco & no frost.
Our meeting at S. Stone fine weather ———

18th Meeting day & fine weather

19 I started to Court at 4 Oclock & got back
By Summer this day we are plowing land for wheat
& Cutting down Corn fired 2 Barns this morning
weathered Turned a good deal cooler, run 3 Plows
this day
