1871 March 2 Sam Gilbert gone to Yates
Mill Carried for me 4 Bushels wheat for flour
2½ Bushel Corn for meal 1 Turn for
Martin Smith & 1 Turn for himself & 1½
Bushels wheat for himself fine morning
Sent 1 Plow to Mr Yates to fix for me
Sam Tucker plowing in Lot for Tobacco
Martin malling, Lewis & Ben pillingpileing brush
& wood, Ben scattering leaves in lot turn
in, finished plowing Lot Sam Gilbert got
all his grain ground but did not get the Plow

March 3rd Striping Tobacco day Lowry
Graves finished in my old prize barn
& Richards & went to new prize Barn
& took down nearly all mine in
the body & striped till night rained
nearly the whole day

4th. Striping Tobacco in new prize Barn all
day to day Hired Lowry again Alex Parthina
Rose Lain Dolley Mariah Smith & our own
Gang Snowed Rained & Hailed to day & moon
shining to night & we striped all the body of
3 rooms of Tobacco to day took down the
top striped some of that & 3 rooms with in striped
Tobacco in body is mine & the striped in them
rooms, Sun Shined awhile to day not long

5. Stop snowing cleared of in evening yesterday
pretty day to day I staid at home all day except
went to Mr Lewis’s 1 or 2 or Hours in morning

6 I went to Richards whiteheads Jeres & Kates to day
old place Sallies has got a fine child which they
John Richard after his Father, our folks in
new ground malling piling Brush etc very
pretty day & weather moderate –

7th Thrashed out oats & Fanned out 21½ Bushels
Did not Finish what we had hauled up

8th Manured & Sewed over both our Plant Beds
Tobacco seed & Collard & mustard seed
