8th March 1871 This morning about ½ an hour by
Martin Smiths Son Tommy left his house & was
going out in the woods to play with his pigs
little boy 6 yrs old rambled off in the woods
& got Lost Went over the mountain to Mr
Harveys gate crided & hollowed very much
Sam Harris hea[r]d him crying & going up
the mountain & wandered in the mountains
Several Was looking for him I with them
Martin found him at Tom Lains 1 or 2
oclock & bothered us Smartly so much that
We Just did make a start sewing oats
for Sam Gilbert left side of path thro
the field towards Mr Lewis made hog
pen in evening Sam Tucker plowed up
Potatoe patch & cotton patch before we
went to sewing Oats Beautiful Clear day
& wether warm still, Martin Malled
but little Lewis & Ben Piling Brush in new, - ground

Oats left side of Path go thro field till rain
Ben & Lewis piling Brush in new ground
I went to Post Office Mr Hunts place
& James Kelleys & started from Mr Kelleys
about 4 oclock & a thunder cloud came
up very quick after I started thundered
lightened & Rained tremendous hard &
I come home & got very wet from my
knees down the wind Blew very hard
very wet evening ended Stoped from
Sewing Oats Still Cloudy & Warm

10 Cleared off Malling piling wood in
new ground pretty day & still day —

11th. Sewing oats left Side of Patch going thro
the field Sam & Bill Plowing in, Martin
Malling Send Sam Tucker to Mr Lewis
to roll Logs Jacob Mary James & Miss Susan
Monroe & children came here, Raining all
night
