The petition of William M. Loyd of the county of San Augustine and Republic aforesaid represents unto
Your Honor that he yourpetitioner is the sole heir, and legal and proper rep-
resentative of Elijah Loyd dead who died Louisiana, Intestate - possessed
of a large estate - And Your pe-
titioner would further represent unto
Your Honor, that one William -"-
Goings domicialled ... in the County
aforesaid, a Freeman of Color is
now in possession and unjustly detains
the possession of six negro slaves, with
Sally (or Sarah) a negro woman
and the mother of Louisian a
girl and Julia Anne a girl and
Eli, John and James Boys - and
all the children of the said negro
Would further represent with Your
Honor that the aforementioned slaves
are worth three thousand dollars - and that your petitioner is justly
entitled to the property and possessor
of said slaves. ~ For that
whereas in the Year Eighteen hundred
and twenty eight, the said Elijah
Loyd now deceased- purchased
