Returned Jaki and Fitzgerald tapes to library. Seessel’s; got K.C steak and artichoke hearts for anniversary dinner; also my last bottle of La Tache. Made French Fries to go with meal. Good way to celebrate 34 years of marriage.

All but finished La Princesse de Cleves; good as ever.
Wrote to Gore Vidal, answering note about a March visit and a trip to Shiloh.
Dentist; got teeth cleaned; made appointment for next March; a six-month span.
Called Nashville about flight reservations for Southern Festival next month. Will leave here at 8:30AM. Oct 12-20th. Anniversary of R.E. Lee’s death.
Dinner with Herb and Neil – Ross Pritchard’s 66th birthday; Lila, of course, and Mimsy and Frank. Good food, good wine.
Home late; bed by 1:30.

Finished La Princesse de Cleves; a great small-scale novel, even better than I remembered.
Bob Giroux, Walker’s publisher, called to say that the New York Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Oct 24th, in a Catholic church on Park between 83rd and 84th. Eudora will be there if she can; so will Buckley; 5 or so service speakers.
Drove out is Davis Kidd; got a short paperback book on Robert Jetters.
