STOP 289 - THAILAND - 20 MI. S.E.
CHANTABURI, 75 M., VIII-1-62
1000 specimens.

Excellent camp off on a little
dirt road, leading to a spectacular
waterfall which issues right
from the cliffs in a sheer
canyon (not large but very
impressive) with a beautiful
pool below. Above the waterfall
there is a large stream which
must flow during heavy rains
but which is normally dry
since the water goes underground.
Stream bed filled with huge
boulders. The area is very steep
and hilly and is covered with
excellent forest. Collecting is
best along the edges or in
places where the forest has
been cut for rubber or
banana plantations. (Rubber
trees are planted extensively
on the flatter ground at the
base of the hills.) Weather -
sunny part of the time, cloudy
area. Moderate to cool, fairly
still.

STOP 290 THAILAND: PRACHUAB,
2 M., VIII-6-62
100 specimens.
(See stop 272)

A one-night stop in this
little sea coast town. Collecting
was much worse than it was
on July 6; strong winds were
flowing, rain fell, and besides
many of the good little spots
along the edge of the hill had been
cut over and cleared.

STOP 291 - THAILAND: CHUMPHON
10 M., VIII-6-62
250 specimens
