The country through there
is what they call Rogue River Valley, Oregon,
and is noted for its
fine pears. We were told this
valley is thirty miles wide in some places,
fifty miles long.
On June 27th, we camped
near Siskiyou, in the
Siskiyou Mts., 3400 ft. [3,400 feet] high,
with mountains, still higher,
towering all around us. This
was the highest place at which
we camped, From here we passed over 11 miles. But the highest point
we climbed, a height of 4800 [4,800] was reached the next day at
noon. A height of between
4800 and 4900 5000 ft. [5,000 feet]. It overlooks
the Sacramento Canyon far
below. We ate our lunch
