San Francisco June 28th 1853. Tuesday Eve

My Dear Mother,

Your kind & welcome letter dated
May 17th was recieved [received] the 21st inst. I was very
happy to hear that you were all enjoying such good
health & that C. & H. were attending school, --- or C.
rather, as you wrote that he had that day commen-
ced going to Mr. Piny's, & that H. had finished her
quarter at the Academy, & I hope they will both be able
to attend school regularly through the summer, & that
your health will continue as good as it was when you
last wrote. My health remains the same -- good.

I am at work this week for Mr. Wm. Shipley [William Shipley] as
I did not have anything else in particular to do,
just now, being out of business & work too.

Am keeping house as yet -- so last night set up
till 10 O'clock boiling some corned beef, & cabbage, as
I thought it would be good cold, & save me the
trouble of cooking every meal, while I am at work,
so I had corned beef for breakfast, corned beef for dinner
& corned beef for supper. I have got enough left now
to last me all day tomorrow, so you see I am
living on luxuries. The markets here are now well
supplied with all kinds of vegetables. We have had
green corn, cucumbers, summer squashes, string beans
&c for the last ten days, & new potatoes, green peas
beets, cabbages, & turnips for the past six weeks.
