June 29th, Morn, I have just finished my breakfast
consisting of Tea & dry toast (did not seem to have any
appetite for corned beef & cabbage) & as I do not com-
mence work until seven O'clock, thought I would write
a few lines in my letter. This is a fine morning & I
am as well as usual & I hope you are all enjoying as
good health this morn as I am. I do not know what
to write you for news as nothing of interest has trans-
pired since I last wrote. The "Cultivator" which you
sent me, I have not as yet recieved [received], but may do so
yet. I have read an account however of the dreadful
railroad accident which occured [occurred] at "Norwalk Conn" [Connecticut]
& which was a horrible affair & much worse than any
of the accidents, which I have written you about
as having occurred on this coast, with the exception
of the wreck & burning of the Steamship Independence.

From all accounts I should judge that this accident
at Norwalk was caused by carelessness, & if such
is the case, I think those who neglected their duty, thus
causing such a frightful accident, should be punished
to the full extent of the law. -- I must now off to work --

Eve -- Have just returned from my work & after
partaking of a hearty supper of corned beef & cabbage
have seated myself to finish my letter as the
mail leaves here day after tomorrow.

The weekly mail has just arrived from New York
but I suppose it brings no news for me for
as yet I have recieved [received] nothing by the weekly.

This arrangement has been withdrawn as it
