I was glad to know that Chas. & Hattie
recieved [received] the gold quarter dollars safely & that
they proved acceptable. I shall send C. two or
three papers by the mail but shall probably
not write, only to you at this time although
I intended to have written either C or H by every
mail, but as the mail closes this evening & I
have delayed writing so long that I fear I shall
be unable to do so this time but next time I
will commence earlier. & endeavor to write
them a long letter. Give my love to them
& tell them I was glad to hear that they were
well. -- such good children, attending school &c.

I can imagine from what you wrote that Chas
has got a fine garden this year & I hope he will
raise as large melons from the seeds I sent him
as they raise here. I often see melons here weigh-
ing from 40 to 50 lbs & they sell at retail at from
20 cts to $2.00 a piece. The wild flowers you wished me
to send you are all gone this year so you
will have to wait until another spring, when I
will comply with your request & send you "any
quantity" of them. We have had no rain here
since the last of May, & shall probably have none
until the last of November when the grand
flowers will again take a fresh start, & the whole
country be decked [bedecked] with the beauties of nature --

We are now having very pleasant weather, but
for the past two months we have had cold winds & fog
about every afternoon -- over
