My Dear Mother

I have commenced writing you this
early, as I wish to write a few lines to Hattie &
also to Mr. Tucker & his family. Your kind letter
of the 17th July was recieved [received] the 17th inst together with a
few lines from H. & letters from Mr & Mrs T & Lizzie

I was very happy to hear that you were all well
except Chas [Charles], & also to hear that he was much better
& I hope you are all enjoying perfect health,
& happiness. I am well as usual & hope I may
remain so, at least during my stay here --

Since I last wrote you I have recieved [received] two or
three letters from Sam Tucker [Samuel P. Tucker], & he writes that he
is now enjoying good health -- can handle the pick
& shovel
from morn till night, day after day --
& I think he likes up there very well & he will
probably remain there until next Spring --

I can write you but little news & even the
little I do write may be uninteresting to you
still I will write something --

We are having fine weather, with the exception of
an occasional foggy morning -- the climate being
very even here, there is but little change from
day to day except the change from the rainy to the
dry season. We have now had no rain since the
last of May & shall probably have none for two
