& attending to my affairs myself -- but I came to the
conclusion that as I know nothing about how
matters stood, Mr. T could effect a settlement
with Esq. J. as well as I could, & I do not
wish to leave this country, with the intention
of returning to it again, so now I am here
I mean to stay until I get enough of it.

After I concluded not to return home this
season I thought I had better have my affairs
settled up immediately & my money sent on
to me even if it could not be settled up in
a manner fully satisfactory, for, (as I have written
you before) I can loan money here on good security
for 3 per cent per month, which is better than 5 prct [percent]
per year, -- then again if there are to be any
losses, I choose to make them myself.

As you say we no need to have lost anything
by Warren Woods, for I know I could have
secured it in some way. But after all the
losses there for have not been very great & as Mr
T. wrote me that he had settled with Esq J.
according to the accounts which he sent me. I
thought it best for me (situated as I am) to make
no objections to it whatever, at least for the present
as perhaps I ought to feel thankful that it is no
worse -- still there are some things in the bill which
I do not exactly like & which I am going to write
Mr. T. about & ask him for an explanation.
