San Francisco April 8th 1854

Dear Mother

I now take the opportunity
to write you a few lines as the Steamer
leaves here tomorrow morning for San
Juan
, by which I can forward letters.

I am as well as usual, and enjoy
as good health as any person could wish
to, and I hope you are well also.

We are now having warm pleasant
weather, and I think the rains are
over for this year, but we have had
a great deal of rain within a month
past. Consequently there is no want
of water, in any part of the State.

Beautiful wild flowers are now in bloom
all over the country, but as yet I have
had no chance to get away from the
City for a single hour, for of late I
have been closely confined in consequence
of Mr Noyes absence, but I am in hopes
that I shall have a chance to go about
soon bye and bye although I do not
care about being away from my business
a great while at a time ---
