in order that Mr. N. [Ephraim Noyes] does, consequently
I could not make enough more to pay
the extra risk I should be obliged to serve
even if I made any more, so I finally
told Mr N. that I would not give him
$500 for his entire interest, while at
the same time I would not take $1500
for my interest which is the same as
his, so I guess he concluded that I would
not buy him out at any price, and
that he had better remain where he
is for the present, which just suits me
much better than it would to have him
leave, as we can get along first-rate
together, and for the past eleven months
have always done so.

The reason why he feels so kind
of discouraged is, partly owing to his feeling
unwell, which makes any one feel home-
sick. Then since he left home, he has
had a child born and I suppose he feels
anxious to see him, then to cap the whole
his partner at home has sold out their
Store, so that Mr Noyes feels as though
he had no income there, but shall be
obliged to send home money to support
his family. But after all it does not
seem as though he needs to worry so much
