Dear Mother,

I recieved [received] your kind letter of
the 16th March, the 15th inst. I also recieved [received] letters
from J. A. Tucker and Lizzie the 20th by Adams & Co's
Express via Nicaragua. I was happy to hear that you
continued to be blessed with good health, but sorry
to hear that Harriet continued so unwell. I fear she
will have to be very careful until you have warm
dry weather -- she is so liable to take cold easily
that she ought to be careful not to expose herself --

Judging from what you write I think Charles
is well and hearty -- getting along nicely in the
Store and likes it very well, while Mr Lewis
likes him. I suppose he will remain there through
the summer, a part of the time at least for there
will probably be no school in town which he will
care to attend, unless it be the Academy and if
I remember rightly, he is not very partial towards
that institution.

If he has a mind to, he can learn a great
deal in the store, which will be very useful to him
when doing business I learned more of bookkeeping while
with Mr Tucker, than I ever learned, by studying it at school
