I received your letter of the 1st April the 5th inst
and I found it to be no "Fool" of a letter either.
Wish I could say as much in favor of all the
letters which I recieved at that time, but I can-
not. Enclosed with your letter I found a somewhat
suspicious looking document which proved to be
more show than reality -- still it served to show,
that Sis had not forgotten me which rendered
it very acceptable.

I was very glad to hear that you and
Charles were well at the time you wrote, and
that Harriet was gaining so finely, and I
hope her health will continue to improve until
she is meater than ever, and if she is only
careful I think she will enjoy good health, and
be able to work, attend school or do whatever
she chooses, at least I hope so.

My health remains the same, which is
equivalent to saying that I am tough and hearty.

To say how long I shall be permitted to enjoy
the above blessing, is of course beyond my comprehension
but I hope as long as I remain away from home
if no longer. I am situated just about the
same as when I last wrote you, and my business
affairs remain the same. I am still keeping the
bookstand, and own an interest in the Schooner
S. D. Bailey and Ortolan. You will see these nautical
in the Papers which I intend to send Charles by next mail
