San Francisco, Sunday Aug 13th 1854

Dear Mother,

I have not received a letter
from you since July 18th. I recieved [received] by the mail
which arrived here the 31st July, a letter from J. A. Tucker,
and one from Miss Lewis, but none from you.

I also received a copy of the "Cultivator" from
Charles, and this is the first time since Sept 20th 1852
that I have missed recieving [receiving] a letter from you,
whenever the mail has arrived from the
Atlantic States. At first I thought it must have
been mislaid here in Post Office, as I was
(and am now) sure that you wrote me, the same
as usual, so I kept inquiring for it every day
for about a week, but could not find it, so
I came to the conclusion, that it had been delayed
somewhere on the way and had never reached
here. Perhaps you did not get it into the office
in reason, for I cannot think you neglected to
write me altogether, at any rate I shall feel
disappointed if I do not recieve [receive] two letters
from you, when the next mail arrives, which
will be in the course of the coming week.

If you only knew, how much pleasure I derive from
letters recieved [received] from home, I do not think you
would fail to write me by every mail, as you
