San Francisco October 15th 1854

Dear Mother

I have nothing particular
to write you in the way of news, so soon
after writing my last letter, still as I had
nothing else to demand my attention this
evening, thought I might as well commence
my letter for next mail.

I received your welcome letter dated
Sept 17th yesterday afternoon, -- was very happy
to hear that you were all well &c. and am
glad my friend Mr Cogswell called to see you,
as I think he is one of the finest young men
I ever became acquainted with. He wrote me
a letter about six weeks ago saying that he
arrived at home safe and well and was
enjoying himself finely. He also wrote that
he had called on friend J. A. Tucker, and
should call upon you the next week and
it appears he kept his word.

I am glad that you felt pleased to see
him, and I wish you could have seen my
partner Mr Noyes [Ephraim Noyes], as he would have given
you full particulars with regard to my present
situation, but probably before you recieve [receive] this letter
you will have recieved [received] one from me, giving an
