troubles of this life, but that you will con-
tinue to live contented and happy.

It is a source of pleasure to me as
well as you to know that you have one
dutiful Son who "has never caused you pain"
and a kind daughter whom you have every
reason to be proud of, and who proves herself
an enviable companion. It makes me feel
happy to hear my Brother and Sister spoken
of as being nice dutiful children, doing all
they can to render our Mother happy.

Oh if I had viewed such things in the
same light as I see them now, how differently
I should have conducted -- how differently
I should have treated you. But past actions
cannot be recalled and my only alternative
is to conduct aright for the time to come
which I shall endeavor to do to the best of
my knowledge. Miss Lewis often writes me
about C. & H being excellent children and she
seems to think a great deal of them.

Miss L. and Mrs Tucker both wrote about
Hattie being at Boston with them and from
what they wrote they feel glad to have her there
and are endeavoring to make her visit
pleasant and agreeable to her and she will
no doubt have a pleasant time while away
still I think she will like to get home again

acceptable and I shall send him one in return.
