San Francisco Jan 8th 1855 --

Dear Mother,

I have no particular
news to write you at this time, but I
have got in such a habit of writing you
often, that I feel lost whenever I think
of omitting to write you, as it has become
quite a pleasure to write, more so perhaps
than it is to you to read the many letters
that I have written you of late, but
trusting that you will inform me when-
ever my letters are not acceptable, I shall
continue to write as often as heretofore.

I am quite as well as usual, -- much
better than I was when I last wrote you
as I then had a bad cold, and was
troubled with my old complaint -- toothache,
but I have since had my tooth pulled,
and am all right again, as usual.

Mr Noyes [Ephraim Noyes] is also well, and we continue
to get along well as ever. Trade has been
very good for a week past, and all
we can ask, is, for it to continue as good
as it now is, although we do not expect
it will hold as good all winter.
