San Francisco Mar 5th 1855

Dear Mother,

I received your kind
letter of the 1st Feby. [February] the 2d inst. -- was
very happy to hear from you, and to know
that you were all well at the time you wrote.

Hope Charles has now got entirely
rid of his cold and is quite well again.

I think he will find it necessary
for him to be careful about exposing
himself in any way, as I do not expect
his constitution, is as strong as it was
before he had that fit of sickness last
summer, and I hope he will take
good care of himself, so as to avoid
being sick again if possible. ---

I am as well as usual this evening
and able to attend to business, which
is not very driving at the present time
however, but now that I am alone again
I have about as much as I wish to attend
to, even if trade is dull. Mr Noyes [Ephraim Noyes] returned
from Santa Cruz a week ago last Friday
and Saturday morning he went to work
thinking that he should be able to attend
to business the same as usual, but towards
