But with me things seem to go
differently. I try to take everything as it
comes, and make sure the best I can of it.

Perhaps I should be more anxious
to make money fast, if I had a wife
and child depending upon me for
support but as I have none, and am
not likely to have, I do not trouble myself
on that score, -- Then again since you
write so strongly and encouragingly
about coming out to California I
have almost made up my mind to
remain at my present business for
five years, and I believe I must
be looking around for a building
lot, to build a house on for us
against the time you arrive out
here. There are a number of my
acquaintances giving to the Atlantic
States this season, who intend to return
again to California, and I shall
probably engage some one of them
to assist you to come out --- but
if you will not come without, I
will come home for you and see
you safely out here myself, and then
do all I can to render you comfortable
and contented -----
