Dear Mother

How do you do this evening?
Quite well I hope. -- I am as well as usual
and it is very fortunate for me that I
am well, for since Mr Noyes [Ephraim Noyes] has been
unwell, I have had a considerable to attend
to, and I have but a very little leisure
time. I have not as yet heard from
Mr N. since he started to go to Oregon,
but expect a letter from him when the
Steamer returns, which will probably be
in the course of three or four days.

If he should be no better when he gets
back than he was when he started away
from here, I should not wonder if he
made up his mind to go home, for I
think he begins to feel discouraged about
being smart again here, for he has been
ailing a great part of the time for three
months past, and then he is rather nervous
which makes it worse for him, so for
these reasons I am led to believe that
he will not remain here long unless
there is a good prospect for him to regain
his health again
