Oct 3rd Wednesday Eve, I received your kind
letter of the 2nd Sept. last evening also one en-
closed in yours from Harriet, I was glad
to hear from you all again, -- to hear that
you were all well, and comfortable.

I should be pleased to hear from Sis
often, and have promised to answer all
of her letters as soon as I recieve [receive] them
but I am afraid I shall foe once omit
Answering her nice letter by return mail
for want of time although I will try and
write her a few lines. It is now past
eleven oclock [o'clock]. I closed up the stand at
one half past ten and have since written
Mr Tucker two pages. The mail leaves here
day after tomorrow so I shall have only
one more chance to write before it goes,
and that will be tomorrow night at this
time, and I must at the request of Mr N. [Ephraim Noyes]
write to Mrs N. I received a letter from
Mr N. day before yesterday also one last
eve. from Sam Tucker. Sam is well.

Mr Noyes is well also and will probably be
back here in the course of ten days.

[written vertically in left margin]
I learned from your letter, the sad intelligence of Andrew L's [Andrew Lewis]
death. 21 seems hard to think he should be called upon to die
but I suppose it was so ordained for his good, and the
good of his relatives and friends although they will be hard
? to look upon it in that light, I am afraid.
